South Park is one of San Diego’s historic urban communities. It is known for its compact blocks and many trees as well as a walkable business region.
South Park is comprised of mostly single family homes although there are also bungalows and apartments. You’ll find a variety of Spanish Colonial Revival and Craftsman architectural styles. Many of these homes were built between 1905 and 1930 and were designed by William S. Hebbard, Richard Requa, and Irving Gill. This neighborhood is very dog friendly and offers a dog park on Grape Street.
South Park includes several cafes, restaurants, churches, wine bars, art galleries, and taverns as well as a yoga studio and dog wash. The main road is 30th Street which runs north to south and open to cars and bicycles. The number two line bus serves this area. This community holds Walkabouts during certain months and shops stay open late. Refreshments are served and live music entertains the guests.
The San Diego Unified School District provides facilities like Golden Hill K-8 as well as highly ranked McKinley Elementary School and San Diego International Studies School. There are hundreds of private institutions like the Calvary Christian Academy, Escondido Adventists Academy, the Montessori American School, and Halstrom Academy. South Park also offers the Albert Einstein Academy Charter School which helps students with German language immersion.
This community is next to the Balboa Park Golf Course and Balboa Park which features the San Diego Zoo, 15 museums, gardens, restaurants, and trails for hiking and biking. Several different freeways and highways are close by for commuting and shopping.
